1. Who is River Capital
Advisors, L.C.?
River Capital Advisor, L.C. (RCA) is a non-commission, fee-only
registered investment advisory firm serving business owners,
professionals, high net worth individuals, foundations,
trusts and retirement plans throughout the Southeast. Our mission is
to provide holistic, objective and independent professional
investment management and wealth management services to enable our
clients to meet their investment and financial objectives at a
dramatically reduced level of risk. Our principals have been
providing investment management services for over 100 years combined. Our main
office is in Jacksonville, FL with affiliate offices in Thomasville
and Atlanta, GA, and Tallahassee, FL.
2. What does
"Fee-only" mean?
Fee-only means that we do not accept commissions, soft dollars or
other forms of compensation from any investment service providers.
Our only source of revenue is from our clients' fees.
We believe in "open architecture" which means that we will work with
any investment management or financial services firm as long as it's
in the best interest of our client. We have no incentives to
work with a specific investment management firm or service provider.
Said another way, we do not have any of the conflicts of interest
with our clients.
3. How is RCA different
from other investment management firms?
We are not brokers or salesmen. We will not try to sell
you anything. What we will do is provide personalized service to: 1)
gain an in depth understanding of your personal needs, 2) develop a
plan to achieve your goals and objectives without taking undue
investment risk and 3) implement the plan with a combination of
active and passive investment managers, individual stocks and fixed
income securities.
The primary difference between RCA and other financial service
providers is that we actually perform most of the services we offer.
Most wealth management firms outsource many areas of wealth
management. In most cases, larger firms would take a team of
individuals to have the breadth of experience and knowledge that
each of our principals possess.
The majority of our team members are Certified Public Accountants
(licensed in several states) and many have additional professional
designations such as
Certified Financial Planner practitioner (CFP®),
Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA),
Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) and
Personal Financial Specialist (PFS).
In addition to our investment management expertise, we have
extensive experience in tax and estate planning, implementation and
maintenance of the plan (often overlooked in larger firms, but
extremely important in light of changing tax law). We also
prepare tax returns in house. By having in-depth knowledge of each
client, we can be assured of knowing how specific transactions or
planning techniques will have on other areas of the plan.
Our clients have ONE firm who is familiar with all of their financial
affairs!
4. Does RCA provide
retirement planning services?
Yes. Many
of our current clients have made or are currently making the
transition from the accumulation stage of their lives during their
working years to the retirement and financial independence stage of
their lives. We are here to assist in navigating through this
transition.
5. Who maintains custody of
my assets?
Securities are held in a client's brokerage or custody account. RCA
does not retain or take possession of a client's securities or
funds.
6. Can I make
withdrawals?
Yes, you can make withdrawals at any time. However we prefer to
determine your needs at the outset of our engagement in order to
adjust the cash holdings and avoid the unexpected sales of
securities.
7. What are your minimum
account requirements?
We have two options to suit our clients' needs. Under our
managed portfolio arrangement our minimum initial account balance is
$250,000. This may be aggregated in several accounts
such as a brokerage account, IRAs and trust accounts. We also,
have hourly and fixed-fee plan arrangements for those clients who
value professional advice and guidance, but are comfortable in
implementing and monitoring their plan on their own.
